The AOMA is a cabinet-level agency established in 2016, focused on supporting and empowering minority communities in Alabama. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the inclusion of women and minorities in the state's success by addressing disparities, fostering inclusion, and enhancing access to various services.
AOMA envisions a collaborative Alabama where government, partners, and stakeholders work together to support all Alabamians, especially minority groups. This includes promoting equality, protecting civil rights, expanding access to healthcare and education, and fostering economic opportunities.
AOMA supports these communities by ensuring representation, offering resources in education, healthcare, housing, employment, and business opportunities, and advocating for justice and equality.
The focus areas include ensuring equal opportunities, protecting civil rights, expanding access to healthcare and education, providing leadership and policy guidance, supporting minority-owned businesses, and promoting educational and career development.
AOMA expands access to affordable, quality healthcare and improves health equity through tailored programs, community partnerships, and advocacy.
AOMA supports minority-owned businesses, facilitates rural development, and expands economic opportunities to improve the quality of life in minority and underserved communities.
The office promotes equal access to educational opportunities, career development, and fosters partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
AOMA provides leadership, policy guidance, technical assistance, and support to organizations and agencies serving minority populations.
It advises the Governor, legislators, and officials on issues impacting minority groups and recommends policies to address disparities.
